I Didn’t Start With Belief. I Started With Caution.

Updated on 10 Jan 2026

When something claims it can help at home, my first reaction isn’t excitement.
It’s caution.

" If you’ve read this before, the next section identifies where and how to reduce your household chores"

Before testing anything myself, I sat down with the lab reports the manufacturer had submitted for independent verification and certification. I wanted to understand what was being claimed, and how those results were achieved.

The documents were clear and reassuring. But one thought stayed with me:

All lab reports are produced in controlled environments, not in real homes.

Bacteria Removal in 24 Hours

Bacteria and mould removal in 24 Hours

Fungi removal in 24 Hours.

The results looked promising. Still, I felt the need to take it one step further.

A Home With a Real Fear

The first installation wasn’t planned as a formal experiment. It started with a real concern.

A female homeowner reached out to me. She had a genuine phobia of lizards. They entered her home frequently through the windows — especially during rainy periods. With them came flies, and the constant anxiety of never knowing when one might appear.

Installed Unit:
We installed a 24W Square Recessed Light (Daylight Tone) near her windows.

That was it. No sprays. No traps. No changes to her routine.

I’ll be honest. I was nervous. We waited. One month later I received her reply.

"I can't help but notice that the lizards haven't been appearing at our house after we installed it!" — Mrs Lee

That was the first moment I paused and thought: This deserves closer attention.

We touched it everyday, but we can't see it

By March, curiosity had taken over. I invested in a microscope because I wanted to see with my own eyes.

The dirtiest thing I could find that day was a $10 note, pulled straight from my pocket.

First, I examined it under the microscope. Then, I placed it under an installed 24W Round Recessed Light (Daylight Tone).

Conditions:

  • Distance from ceiling light to object: 2 metres

  • Environment: Indoor, natural ventilation

  • Exposure time: 3 hours

  • Conducted at night, with the ceiling light turned on

No wiping. No cleaning. Just light exposure.

This is the result after 3 hours.

From here, my excitement grew further.

The Plant's Saviour

In April, I approached a friend who runs a plant shop. When I asked about her biggest challenge, her answer was immediate:

"Inventory loss due to plant pests."

Plant bugs don’t just damage leaves. If left unchecked, they spread quickly. To manage this, her assistant spends hours every day inspecting plants and removing tiny pest eggs. This process is extremely labour-intensive, mentally draining, and inefficient.

We decided to try something.

Setup:

  • Installed a 18W T8 Tube Light (Cool White Tone)

  • Selected one sample pot

  • No pesticide or insecticide added

  • Only normal watering

  • Duration: 6 days

Before the experiment, the plant was cleaned thoroughly using a magnifying glass. She told me:

“Even when we clean properly, eggs usually reappear in two days. If not cleared, bugs return within days.”

On the 6th day, I returned to the shop, quietly anxious.

But what I saw shocked me.

We inspected the entire plant carefully with a magnifying glass.

No bugs. No eggs.

The plant was as clean as the first day.

"The lights have been extremely effective in keeping plant pests away." — Felicia

She placed a second order shortly after — expanding coverage for her shop

Mould Growth on Food (Experiment #1)

Singapore’s weather in May is unforgiving. Temperatures often range between 31–37°C, with high humidity that causes food to spoil quickly.

I wanted to see if the mould claim held up in real kitchen conditions.

I placed two bananas side by side:

  • One with no light exposure

  • One directly under a 24W Square Surface Downlight (Cool White Tone)

I checked and recorded observations daily.

By Day 5, the banana without light showed visible mould.
That experiment ended there.

The other banana looked worse on the outside. Its skin darkened faster due to constant light exposure. But the flesh remained firm.

No mould appeared until Day 8.

Observation:
Minor mould was found only on areas not directly exposed to the light.

That was enough for me to confirm this finding.

Mould Growth in a Real Home (Experiment #2)

Around the same period, a friend contacted me in distress.

His 4-year-old HDB was experiencing mould growth throughout the home. He kept his windows closed constantly because cockroaches would fly in whenever they were opened.

To make matters worse, relatives were arriving from overseas within a week.

We installed a 16W Round Surface Downlight (Daylight Tone).

I returned one day later.

Although the mould wasn’t completely gone, the reduction was obvious. What would have taken hours of scrubbing (often resulting in sore hands or peeled skin), or a costly professional cleaning, was significantly reduced.

When he asked about electricity costs, I checked carefully.

At prevailing SP rates (as of July 2025):
12 hours of use ≈ $0.10

The relief was clear.

June 2025

Service Yard Cockroaches, and Gone

In June, another female homeowner shared that cockroaches appeared daily near her service yard rubbish bin. Her daughter was the one killing them each time.

We installed a 24W Round Surface Downlight (Daylight Tone).

A week later, she replied:

“No cockroaches were found running.”

It was a simple message, but I could feel the relief behind it.

Fun Fact
Small pests are attracted to microorganisms like bacteria.
A clean, sterilised environment signals that there is no food source, which is why hygiene plays such a big role in pest prevention.

One Year Later

After a year of observing, installing, and living with these lights, I no longer see them as “just normal downlights”.

They quietly support homes and commercial spaces by reducing the invisible work people do every day.

Where These Lights Can Help Most

Kitchen

Problem: Raw food handling, damp sink areas attract pests
Helps: Keeps the space clean while you prepare meals

Toilets

Problem: High humidity causes mould on walls and ceilings
Helps: Sterilises surfaces and slows mould growth

Service Yard

Problem: Bins, wet mops attract pests
Helps: Keeps bins odour-free, clothes fresher, and pests away

Bedrooms

Problem: Air and surface particles settle on bedding
Helps: Reduces unseen particles. Helpful for children and the elderly

Living Room

Problem: Shared space with frequent interaction
Helps: Maintains hygiene where bacteria and viruses spread easily

Dining Area

Problem: Cooked food attracts flies
Helps: Keeps tables and utensils cleaner, reduces fly activity

Office & Commercial Spaces

Problem: Illness spreads easily in enclosed, air-conditioned areas
Helps: Reduces bacterial and viral spread, improving productivity

A Final Thought

Preventing a problem early often saves more than money. It saves mental energy, the kind that quietly drains you over time.

Because when issues are left unnoticed or unattended, they tend to grow quietly until they disrupt everything at once.

To put things into perspective:

  • Mould removal services typically start from $500 for a single area

  • Termite treatment can range anywhere between $500 to $3,000 per session

  • Even a small air purifier costs around $150, not including replacements, upkeep, or lifespan limits

But the real exhaustion often begins after the treatment.

Furniture needs to be shifted and replaced.
Items need to be packed or thrown away.
Or even, minor renovation works may be required.

For busy house owners, this isn’t just a financial cost. It’s physical strain and time lost.

Solving problems only when they appear often carries a much heavier price than expected. One that’s paid in money, effort, and mental load.

These observations may be useful when you’re thinking about how to support your home or work environment, especially if health, time, and peace of mind matter to you.

Today, I am glad to say: “I found a technology that quietly reduced how often I deal with chores...and I’m not going back.”

We’ve gathered research and real-home observations across different areas of the home to understand where this support is most helpful.
